Luyt Lager in Stellenbosch
In June 2011 Luyt Brewery announced that they will cease its Ballito operation in Ballito north of Durban. Instead the Luyt Lager beer will be brewed in a new establishment, StellenBräuhaus in Stellenbosch. It will be located on the Vredenburg Estate and the new Woodmill Development there. Luyt Brewery will have a tasting room and a bottle store on the premises.
SA Sport Management is the company that is applying for all the licenses but Luyt Brewery and Luyt Brewpub and restaurant is what it is going to be called.
It is also nice to have a new stop at the Western Cape Brew Route.
I put all my ratings on Ratebeer.
Valley Brewery
The newest brewery in town! Everyone has that title ones even if it was 200 years ago for some of them. Glenn Adams at Valley Brewery might not be completely new as a brewer but it is news that his beers are available at the Banana Jam Café. The small brewery is situated in Kommetjie and he has a really nice self-built stainless steel brewery. Check out Valley Brewery on Facebook , visit the brewery in Kommetjie and visit Banana Jam Café for a taste of the London Ale or Valley Weiss.

Woodstock Brewery
What´s up with the new brewery in Woodstock? I often get questions about this new brewery but to be honest I do not know all that much.
What I do know is that behind the development is the company Midnight Feast Properties and the new owner is Andre Viljoen. It is going to be situated at 252 Albert Road/1 Gelb Lane in Woodstock. Close to the Old Biscuit Mill. There are some issues regarding parking areas, access road to the property and so on but I do not know if that is why they are delayed.
The brew equipment comes from Zhongde in China.
I also know that they have involved the danish brewer Christian Skovdal Andersen in the process. If he is going to be the brewmaster at this new brewery or “just” brew there I do not really know.
I just hope that there will be some new and innovative beers coming out of that new brewery …. soon!
Ratebeer – a showroom for craft beer
Ratebeer is one of the largest beer sites on Internet and it is growing every day. I try my hardest to promote South African craft beer through Ratebeer. This is the best way for me to contribute to the craft beer revolution that is coming to Africa right now.
I would like to have a Ratebeer event and gather as many local craft beers as possible. Never mind how many people joining just to get it starting. I think that it could be a great way to promote SA craft beer.
” RateBeer is widely recognized as the most accurate and *most-visited source for beer information. RateBeer is an independent world site for craft beer enthusiasts and is dedicated to serving the entire craft beer community through beer education, promotion and outreach.” /Ratebeer.com
Coffeebeans Routes – Cape Town Beer Route
Yesterday a saw that Coffeebeans Route has set up a Cape Town Beer Route. That is really good news. I wrote about a brew route or beer route some weeks ago and now there is at least a short version of it. For R395 pp you get Newlands, Banana Jam and a local brew (Umqombothi).
I do think they should have a medium long tour as well and at least go down to Somerset West and Triggerfish Brewing and/or Devil´s Peak Brewing Company.
