About

This blog is about homebrewing and craft beer in South Africa … most of the time. I do write about other things as well but I would like to keep it as “clean” as possible.

The homebrewing part is mainly about the process, equipment and recipes. The craft beer part is to support and help the South African brewers.

Would it be OK if I email you directly? I am busy putting together a book about sa beer (with the emphasis on Craft beer) and I would like to pick your brains – you seem to have your finger on the pulse of the SA Craft Beer Industry. I have to ensure that when the book comes out at the end of the year, it is contains the latest and most accurate info re this industry. Please would you email your name, email address and contact numbers to me.

Excellent blog site, by the way.

Hi, I follow your website / blog with avid interest and wonder what we can do to be listed? Our brewery has been going for 6 years in the village of Clarens. We host the annual Clarens Beer Festival in February of each year. Manie of Roeland LIquors suggested I mail you to get included. Many thanks! Natalie Meyer

    Hi

I understand each blog has its own area of interest but with the depth of information you have it would really be great if you could advise us of distributors of these craft beers for us restaurants/pubs who want to stock these product line.
    Otherwise great blog.

    Thank you

    Hi there Joakim.
I see you favour Scandinavian beer, and in particular Swedish beers. It was in Sweden that I first tasted beer other than SA Beers way back in 2001 and I was from then hooked up on Craft Beer. I am pleased to see what is currently happening in SA on the Craft Beer scene and (although not a brewer yet) decided to launch a new Craft Beer t-shirt brand “Craft Beer Tees” http://www.facebook.com/craftbeertees in the hope that I can become a brewer one day. Thanks for your blog…very well done.

Hey there, I am loving how resourceful your blog is. I had no idea there were this many craft breweries in South Africa. I wanted to know if you knew how craft brewers get a license to sell their beers. I am only starting out with home brewing but would be interested to research the possibilities of selling beer to local pubs and restaurants.

Hi! I suggest you contact a microbrewer close to you. The regulation is a little bit different i different provinces. Another good thing to do is to join a homebrewing club. Many of the craftbrewer (if not all of them) have been homebrewers and they know what to do and not to do to start a brewery in SA. Good luck!
