Sabie Brewing Company is a new brewery that is going to open in Sabie, Mpumalanga. Sabie is a small town inbetween the Hops Hollow Brew Pub in Longtom Pass and the soon to open Mountain Stream Brewery up in Graskop. The brewery is situated in one of the oldest buildings in Sabie, the H.T. Glynn House build in 1921.

The owner happily shows visitors around. The original floor was not usable because of a huge termite mound underneath but they salvaged enough of the original wood and had a local master carpenter make the bar counter and a couple of tables that do justice to the woods history. Above the main door, the old wall is in its original state. The original door handles are also there, attached to blocks cut from the frame and used many years ago to prop the roof! They have managed to redo the building in a modern way but retaining the original buildings style and character.
But the beer…. Wow. Each one on the menu is described in context to its historical significance and flavour. They will also prepare take away crates which seem to accompany most of the departing visitors. I made lots of mmmm noises while savouring their well crafted beers.
The food is great too, and compliments the location and beer. You must try the tequila with a chilli sauce chaser. Yes. Chili sauce chaser. Made by a local called Stavros, the secretive blend is 90% flavour and 10% burn. It is unfortunately not for sale but if it was, I would buy it in 5 litre containers at a time.
If you love good beer, I wouldn’t find it unreasonable to drive the four hours from Johannesburg just to taste their beer, and then be driven back home.
Iam Tshepo from bushbuckridge i need to learn about brewing beer
