South Cape Breweries
South Cape Breweries (SCB) is the story of a hobby turning into a business. The two men behind this new brewery is Johann Baker and Jan van der Walt. They have been planning this brewery for a couple of years. The brewery equipment is made in Russia (BlonderBeer.Type D 500 l).
SBC beers is available in and around Mossel Bay at the moment. Hopefully also available in Cape Town soon or as Johann Baker puts it “We are now in the process to finalize the bottling plant. Once completed we will definitely distribute outside Mossel Bay”.
At the moment they brew four diffferent kind of beers. Glenhoff Lager (Premium) , Glenhoff Draught, Glenhoff Gold (Light Lager), Glenhoff Pilsner (Superieur).

Cape Brewing Company
Cape Brewing Company in Paarl has officially opened it’s doors for tasting. CBC is partly owned by the Swedish brewery Åbro. Some of the beers are a joint venture between CBC brewmaster Wolfgang Ködel and Åbro’s brewmaster Lennarth Anemyr. In October 2012 they announced four different “joint venture beers” which all are avaliable for tasting. Trading hours: During the week: 11am-18pm Weekends: 10am-18pm
The Devil – Very big hearted lager beer, packed with intense flavours.
Original – Classic blond lager with a slight aftertaste of citrus.
Gold No1 – Multiple award-winning pilsner: hoppy and pleasantly bitter.
Smoked Malt – Mild ”rauchbier” with a characteristically smoky flavour.
According to their website they have four more beers on the menu. A wild guess is that the Amber Weiss is similar to the famous Red Weiss that Wolfgang brewed at Paulaner.
Pilsner – A Craft Pilsner with a strong hop aroma and nice bitter finish.
Lager – A crisp, hoppy and generous Craft Lager.
Krystal Weiss – A Craft Krystal Weiss, clear-filtered Weissbier, with an elegant twist of lemon and grapefruit.
Amber Weiss – A German-style Craft Amber Weissbier. Fruity and satisfyingly aromatic.

From the 3rd till the 6th January Cocos Restaurant in Hermanus will be holding a Hermanus Craft Beer Festival for all holiday makers and craft beer enthusiasts.

Basset Breweries
Basset Breweries is a brand new brewery at the Lynton Hall Golf Academy south of Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Lynton Hall is in Pennington, a small town along the east coast. Basset Breweries attended the Beer & Boerie Festival in Shongweni some month ago and got some really good reviews. The commercially brewery is still under construction but Andy Turner at Basset Breweries says ” I am hoping to have the premises complete by February 2013. By that time I should have my micro-manufacture and distribution licence and commence trading as a commercial micro “.
” I will be producing 3 types of beer initially : Irish Red Ale (Befreckled Red), Belgian Pale Ale (Umdoni Gold) and a Smoked English Porter (Pennington Pride). These will be available on the South Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal both in bottles and on tap at selected pubs and restaurants. “, he continuous.
